The Effect of CCDP (RH - 531) on Flower Shape and Growth Habit of Zinnia Elegans Jacq

Abstract
Single-flowering Zinnia elegance found abundantly cultured in Korea were sprayed at different growth stages with different levels of CCDP (RH-531), and studied the response and action of this chemical on Zinnia flowers.
1. CCDP level higher than 500ppm showed remarkable influence on inducing all-double Zinnia flowers having numerous petals if treated at 10-leaf stage of Zinnia plants, whereas that of below 500ppm had no influence on the flower characteristic whatsoever.
2. Although gibberellin treatment reduced flower size, there was no influence on the number of petals (double flowering habit). Combination of CCDP with gibberellin resulted in reduced flower size of all-double flowering, indicating the fact that gibberellin does not counteract the action of CCDP in the process of double flowering.
3. The double-flowering habit of Zinnia was assumed to be influenced by a RNA level activity due to certain double-recessive gene activation with CCDP.
